Ian had happily been a travel photographer for 20 years when, in 2015, his wife said that she really wanted to go the tea party in the Bake Off final, so could he 'sort it out for her'?

Despite enormous odds and much to his surprise, Ian managed to not only get his wife to the tea party but being a finalist, he was actually baking for the Bake-Off title! 

Up until that year, when he wasn’t taking pictures in some far flung corner of the world, he was making apple crumbles and the occasional loaf of bread for the family, yet had never dreamt of making towers of eclairs, chocolate wells or any showstopper. 

With a lot of practice he picked up no less than three “Star Baker” gongs on his way to the final. As it was, his wife didn’t enjoy the final - she found it way too stressful and then ultimately had to deal with their upset children when daddy didn’t win!
