About the Event

Join the brilliant Rosie Brandreth (GBBO contestant from series 10) live, who will teach you the skills you need to master her delicious (and adorable) Tortoise Cake. 

This class takes place on Sunday March 13th at the following times:

10am PT / 12pm CT / 1pm ET / 5pm UK GMT

If you’re keen to step up your cake decorating skills - join us to make and decorate this life like tortoise cake in two hours, with no special equipment needed!

Bake With A Legend Online Classes are an interactive experience, where we limit group sizes to around 20 to ensure an intimate online setting. Not only do you have your celebrity baker teaching you, but you also have one of our brilliant Bake With A Legend hosts who will ensure the smooth running of your experience ensuring everyone is enjoying themselves.

If you need any help at any point during the class, you’ll be encouraged to raise your hand and your baker will be virtually joining you in your own kitchen in no time to assist you!

You’ll bake along in tandem with Rosie, learning many tips and tricks a long the way as you perfect all the skills required to make Rosie's delicious (and cute) Tortoise Cake. Rosie will also be on hand to answer your questions, be those about baking or her experiences of being involved on such an iconic television show.

Tickets are priced at £35 for individuals and £50 for groups of two or more that will join from the same screen. Please note we can accept requests to move classes with two or more weeks notice prior to the class – any requests to do so, will incur a £5 administrative charge.

Once booked in, all guests will be emailed a full recipe and the zoom link required to join us for the class. Just in case you don’t spot it please check junk mail!

Equipment:

Sandwich Cake tins, 6” by 2” (greased and lined) 

Mixing Bowls x3

Spatula 

Rolling Pin

Fondant Tools (or kitchen knife and cocktail stick) 

Textured Washing Up Cloth or Small Towel

Cake Board / Flat Board, at least 10” diameter 

Cake Carving Knife (or bread knife)

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

200g (1 cup) Caster Sugar 

200g (14 tbsp) Margarine

200g (1 ½ cups) Self-Raising Flour 

½ tsp Baking Powder

4 Eggs  

½ tsp Instant Coffee Powder

1tsp Vanilla Extract

50ml (3 tbsp) Buttermilk or Fresh Sour Cream (room temp)

For the Buttercream:

100g (7 tbsp) Unsalted Butter 

200g (1 ¾ cups) Icing Sugar

100g (Just over ½ cup) Dark Chocolate 

1tsp Vanilla Extract

1-2tbsp Milk

For the Decorating:

2kg (about 4.5 pounds) White Fondant / ready to roll icing (cheapest supermarket own brand is absolutely fine)

Corn Flour (to roll out)

Gel food colours – brown, yellow, dark green, bright green and black

100g (1 cup) Desiccated Coconut
