About the Event

Join the brilliant Karen Wright (GBBO Star, series 9) live from Wakefield, UK as she guides you through her Chocolate Shard Sharing Cake, based on her very own romantic bake judged by Paul and Prue in the tent. This is the perfect bake to get you in the Valentine's Day Spirit, whether you're planning on sharing it or not!

In this class Karen will teach you the skills to bake a light Jaconde sponge, temper chocolate for the shard decorations, make a rich ganache, a coulis and an old English Syllabub cream.Tried and tested by Karen's family, this can transform any meal into a special occasion any time of the year!

Equipment

Bain Marie (heatproof bowl and pan)

Silicone spatula

Tray/pan/bowl for cold water (to cool)

Greaseproof paper

Chopping board

Offset spatula

Swiss roll tin

Greaseproof paper

Electric hand mixer

2 large mixing bowls

Large metal spoon

Sieve

Piping bag

(star nozzle preferred)

Serving plate

Small paint brush

Ribbon (optional)

PME clear glaze spray (optional)

Ingredients:

Chocolate Shards

200g dark chocolate (50% cocoa)

Ganache

100g dark chocolate (50% cocoa)

100g double (heavy) cream

Jaconde Sponge

3 egg whites

15g caster sugar

100g ground almonds

100g icing sugar

3 eggs (whole)

20g plain flour (sifted)

10g cocoa (sifted)

30g unsalted butter (melted)

Raspberry Coulis

100g raspberries

1 tbsp raspberry liqueur (optional)

1 tsp cornflour mixed with a little cold water

1 tsp icing sugar

Syllabub Cream

200g double (heavy) cream

2 Tbsp Chambord liqueur or your choice

1tsp lemon juice

1tsp icing sugar

Raspberries to decorate

The class starts at 8pm UK on Sunday 14th February 2021.We’ll start off the class with an introductory welcome and some background from Karen's time on TV, before we ask you to put on your aprons and bake along as you watch Karen demonstrate all the skills required to make these delicious treats.

Our class will take around 2 hours as we bake our little masterpieces, before you can tuck into the fruits of your labour all whilst hearing fantastic memories and stories from Karen. Tickets are priced at £35 for individuals and £50 for groups of two or more that will join from the same household.Places are non-refundable and cannot be cancelled or altered after purchase. 

All classes are subject to a minimum number of six attendees signing up. If the minimum number is not met, we will inform those who have purchased a place no later than 48 hours before the class, and will arrange a full refund.

Upon booking, all guests will be emailed a link to the class with a full breakdown of ingredients and equipment as well as the method one week before their class. Please do check junk email just in case you don't spot it arrive!
