About the Event

Join the brilliant Karen Wright (GBBO Star, series 9) live from Wakefield, UK as she teaches you to bake her Picnic Pie and it's accompanying Caramelised Onion Chutney. This is a beautiful centerpiece for a picnic or summer buffet, ready to impress any guests. In this class you will learn to weave your own paprika pastry, complete with pastry decorations, as well as beautifully layer delicious fillings. 

Equipment

Large mixing bowl, 

butter knife, 

cling film, 

rolling pin, 

loaf tin 20 cm x 10cm well-greased, 

large sheet of greaseproof paper, 

baking sheet or baking stone, 

pizza roller or sharp knife, 

flower/butterfly cutters (optional) 

scissors, 

pastry brush,

1 medium saucepan, 

1 large saucepan with lid, 

1 frying pan, 

wooden spoon/spatula, 

kitchen paper, 

potato masher or fork, 

scissors, 

1 plate, 

clean tea towel, 

tablespoon, 

sterile jar for chutney (8oz) 

sieve, 

sharp vegetable knife, 

cooling rack.

Pastry

300g strong bread flour (plus extra for rolling)

Half tsp of salt

1 Tbs smoked paprika

225g cold unsalted butter cut into small cubes

100ml chilled water

1 Tbs lemon juice

1 Beaten egg (for glazing)

Filling

1 tortilla wrap (any sort)

200g sweet potato, peeled and chopped into small cubes

2 large red onion, (150g) peeled and finely sliced

2 Tbs oil

1 Tbs brown sugar

4 tbs balsamic vinegar

300g goat cheese (logs that can slice easily)

2 large tomatoes (not cherry tomatoes) sliced and patted dry.

300g spinach

4 hard boiled, shelled and sliced into rounds

200g red peppers from a jar, patted dry (the type from supermarket or deli)

2 large vacuum-packed beetroot

Salt, pepper, dried oregano

Chutney

400g peeled and very finely sliced red onions

3 tbs oil

Half tsp chili flakes

80g brown sugar

150ml balsamic vinegar

We’ll start off the class with an introductory welcome and some background from Karen's time on TV, before we ask you to put on your aprons and bake along as you watch Karen demonstrate all the skills required to make these delicious treats.

Our class will take around 2 hours as we bake our little masterpieces, before you can tuck into the fruits of your labour all whilst hearing fantastic memories and stories from Karen. Tickets are priced at £35 for individuals and £50 for groups of two or more that will join from the same household.Places are non-refundable and cannot be cancelled or altered after purchase. 

All classes are subject to a minimum number of six attendees signing up. If the minimum number is not met, we will inform those who have purchased a place no later than 48 hours before the class, and will arrange a full refund.
