About the Event

Join the brilliant Karen Wright (GBBO Star, series 9) live from Wakefield, UK as she guides you through her recipe for the Frasier Gateaux. This classic French Gateaux can be found in patisseries, boulangeries and supermarkets throughout France. A showstopping dessert it will grace any dinner party or celebration. Light Genoese sponges sandwiched with a thick Creme Diplomat and fresh strawberries and topped a glossy red strawberry jelly, it will be everyone's favourite! It needs to chill out in the fridge a little while but it is certainly worth the wait. Set with Agar powder it is suitable for vegetarians.

Equipment:

Large Mixing bowl x 2, 

balloon whisk, 

wooden spoon,  

medium saucepan x 2, 

cling film, 

large shallow dish, 

electric hand mixer, 

large metal spoon, 

2 x 20cm, non-stick sandwich tins greased and (lined, bottom only with parchment paper)

silicone spatula, 

20cm pastry ring,

acetate collar, 

offset spatula or knife, 

parchment paper sheet dusted with cornflour, 

small saucepan, 

sieve,

sharp vegetable knife.

Ingredients: Crème Diplomat

6 Large egg yolk, 

2 tsp vanilla extract,

75g caster sugar, 

35g cornflour (starch) 

450ml milk, 

1 Tbs agar agar powder. 

150ml double cream (heavy)

Ingredients: Sponge

4 large eggs, 

60g caster sugar, 

120g plain flour

Ingredients: Filling and Topping

500g fresh strawberries, 

100g caster sugar, 

juice of half a lemon,

50ml water, 

1 tsp agar agar powder

We’ll start off the class with an introductory welcome and some background from Karen's time on TV, before we ask you to put on your aprons and bake along as you watch Karen demonstrate all the skills required to make these delicious treats.

Our class will take around 2 hours as we bake our little masterpieces, before you can tuck into the fruits of your labour all whilst hearing fantastic memories and stories from Karen. Tickets are priced at £35 for individuals and £50 for groups of two or more that will join from the same household. Places are non-refundable and cannot be cancelled or altered after purchase. 

All classes are subject to a minimum number of six attendees signing up. If the minimum number is not met, we will inform those who have purchased a place no later than 48 hours before the class, and will arrange a full refund.

Upon booking, all guests will be emailed a link to the class with a full breakdown of ingredients and equipment as well as the method one week before their class. Please do check junk email just in case you don't spot it arrive!
