About the Event
The first in our special series of classes that will be the perfect accompaniment as you enjoy the 2021 series of The Great British Bake Off! Every week, one of our bakers will teach you either the signature or the technical challenge – we’ll choose whichever class we think will be the most enjoyable for you! The first week will be Jane teaching her Malt Loaf and Butter Recipe.

For our first class, join the brilliant Jane Beedle (GBBO Finalist, series 7) live from Kent, UK who will guide you through baking either the Signature or Technical challenge from Episode 1 of GBBO 2021.
The class starts at 5pm UK on Sunday 26th September 2021. We’ll start off the class with a warm welcome and some background from Jane's time on TV, before we ask you to put on your aprons and bake along as you watch Jane demonstrate all the skills required to make Jane's delicious treats.
Our class will take around two hours as we bake our masterpieces, before you can tuck into the fruits of your labour all whilst hearing fantastic memories and stories from Jane, Tickets are priced at £35 for individuals and £50 for groups of two or more that will join from the same household. Places are non-refundable and cannot be cancelled or altered after purchase. All guests will be emailed a link to the class following their booking.
2 Medium Bowls
2 lb Loaf Tin or 2 x 1lb tins
Electric hand whisk or Balloon Whisk
Shallow frying pan or saucepan
For the Malt Loaf
150ml (2/3 cups) Strong Black Tea
250g (1 ½ cups) Raisins
175g (1/2 cup) Malt extract syrup plus extra
40g (2 ¼ Tbsp) Black Treacle
80g (1/3 cup + 1 Tbsp) Molasses sugar or dark muscovado sugar (dark brown sugar)
2 large eggs*
250g (2 cups**) Plain flour
2 level tsp Baking Powder
½ tsp Bicarbonate of soda
Pinch of Salt
For the decoration:
1 large orange, zest only
50g (1/4 cup + 1 Tbsp) Caster sugar plus extra
50g (1/4 cup) Water
For the Butter:
300ml (1 ½ cups) Double cream
Vegetable oil for frying
*UK Large Egg = US Extra-Large Egg
**If using cups, gently spoon the flour into the measuring cup. DO NOT pack flour in.
