About the Event

Join the brilliant Howard Middleton, UK who will guide you through baking his Vegan Sausage Rolls with a delicious Onion Marmalade. Howard’s tasty, flaky vegan sausage rolls have a delicious caramelised garlic, butter bean and sun-dried tomato filling, wrapped in an impressive vegan rough puff pastry and served with rich onion marmalade.

The class starts at 8pm UK on Sunday 9th January 2022 . We’ll start off the class with a warm welcome and some background from Howard's time on TV, before we ask you to put on your aprons and bake along as you watch Howard demonstrate all the skills required to make his delicious treats.

Our class will take around two hours as we bake our masterpieces, before you can tuck into the fruits of your labour all whilst hearing fantastic memories and stories from Howard Tickets are priced at £35 for individuals and £50 for groups of two or more that will join from the same household. Places are non-refundable and cannot be cancelled or altered after purchase. All guests will be emailed a link to the class following their booking.

Large Flat Baking Sheet or Tray 

Mixing Bowls 

Saucepan

Wooden Spoon 

Baking Parchment 

Sharp Knife

Rolling Pin 

Waxed Wrap, Foil, Plastic Wrap 

Kitchen Paper

Pastry Brush 

Large Frying Pan or Skillet

Ingredients:

For the Rough Puff Pastry:

250g (2 cups sifted) Strong White Bread Flour (Plus Extra for rolling)

200g (14tbsp) Chilled solid Vegan Block (such as Naturli in UK or Earth Balance Vegan Buttery Sticks in USA), cubed

100-150ml Cold Water (approx. ½ Cup) 

Pinch of Salt

1tsp Lemon Juice 

2tbsp Oat Milk or similar (for glazing)

1tsp Soy Sauce (for glazing)

For the Caramelised Garlic, Butter Bean and Sundried Tomato Filling:

1 whole bulb/ head of Garlic 

500ml (2 cups) Water (for blanching)

1tbsp Oil 

2tsp Brown Sugar

1tsp Balsamic Vinegar 

100ml (1/2 cup) Water (for caramelizing)

1tsp Dried Thyme (or herb of choice) 

1 x 400g can of Butter Beans, drained (244g drained)

Salt and Pepper

1tsp Soy Sauce, Henderson’s relish or Vegan Worcestershire Sauce

50g (3tbsp) Sun-Dried Tomatoes in oil, drained and chopped

Any other flavourings of choice, such as chilli flakes or harissa paste

For the Onion Marmalade:

2tbsp Oil 

15g (1tbsp) Butter

2 Large Red Onions, peeled and thinly sliced 

40g Muscovado Sugar (can sub in brown sugar)

75ml (1/3 cup) Balsamic Vinegar 

300ml (1 ¼ cups) Red Win, Apple Juice or Water
