About the Event

Join Howard Middleton (GBBO contestant from series 4) live from Sheffield who will teach you the skills you need to bake his Garibaldi Biscuits and Feathered Chocolate Digestives from the technical of The Great British Bake Off week 2.

This class takes place on Saturday 5th November 2022 at the following times:

1pm PT / 3pm CT / 4pm ET / 8pm UK GMT

Bake With A Legend Online Classes are an interactive experience, where we limit group sizes to around 20 to ensure an intimate online setting. Not only do you have your celebrity baker teaching you, but you also have one of our brilliant Bake With A Legend hosts who will ensure the smooth running of your experience ensuring everyone is enjoying themselves.

If you need any help at any point during the class, you’ll be encouraged to raise your hand and your baker will be virtually joining you in your own kitchen in no time to assist you!

You’ll bake along in tandem with Howard, learning many tips and tricks a long the way as you perfect all the skills required to make Howard's version of this week's technical challenge: Garibaldi biscuits - but we'll be keeping the chocolate seperate on some delicious homemade Digestive biscuits. Howard will also be on hand to answer your questions, be those about baking or his experiences of being involved on such an iconic television show.

Tickets are priced at £35 for individuals and £50 for groups of two or more that will join from the same screen. Please note we can accept requests to move classes with two or more weeks notice prior to the class – any requests to do so, will incur a £5 administrative charge.

For this class, you will need:

Equipment

Flat baking sheets/trays

Mixing bowls

Rolling pin

Baking parchment

Wooden spoon

Wire cooling rack

Saucepans

Piping bag

Sieve

Pastry brush

Sharp knife

8cm (3in) round cookie cutter

Cocktail stick or skewer

Ingredients:

For the Garibaldi biscuits

75g currants (or approx. ½ cup chopped raisins or dried blueberries are a good replacement)

25g (2-3 tbsp) dried sour cherries (or use dried cranberries or more currants)

Zest of ½ orange

100g (¾ cup) plain/all-purpose flour*

½ tsp baking powder

Pinch of salt

25g (2 tbsp) caster/superfine sugar*

1 large egg, separated – XL egg in USA

2 tbsp milk

Juice of 1 orange**

25g (3 tbsp) rice flour (or use plain flour)

25g (1 ¾ tbsp) cold unsalted butter, cubed

¼ tsp ground cardamom (seeds from about 5 pods, crushed) - optional

* Plus, extra flour for rolling and extra sugar for topping

** Or you can soak the dried fruit in brandy or sherry if you prefer

For the chocolate feathered digestive biscuits:

150g (1 cup + 2 tbsp) wholemeal/whole wheat plain/all-purpose flour

100g (1 cup) fine or medium oatmeal – or you can blitz whole oats in a food processor

¼ tsp bicarbonate of soda

100g (7 tbsp) cold unsalted butter, cubed

2 tbsp milk

Pinch of salt

40g (3 tbsp) soft brown sugar

About 100g (2/3 cup) dark or milk chocolate

About 30g (3 tbsp) white chocolate
