About the Event
Join Howard Middleton (GBBO, series 4) live from Sheffield who will teach you the skills you need to master his delicious Empandads with two delectable Dips.
This class takes place on Saturday 19th March at the following times:
9am PT / 11am CT / 12pm ET / 5pm UK GMT

Turn up the heat as Howard shows you how to bake a batch of his deliciously spicy empanadas. With options for a meat or veggie filling, encased in crisp, golden pastry, they're sure to get your taste buds tingling. Served with a zingy tomato salsa and a cooling sour cream dip, they're pretty irresistible!
Bake With A Legend Online Classes are an interactive experience, where we limit group sizes to around 20 to ensure an intimate online setting. Not only do you have your celebrity baker teaching you, but you also have one of our brilliant Bake With A Legend hosts who will ensure the smooth running of your experience ensuring everyone is enjoying themselves.
If you need any help at any point during the class, you’ll be encouraged to raise your hand and your baker will be virtually joining you in your own kitchen in no time to assist you!
You’ll bake along in tandem with Howard, learning many tips and tricks a long the way as you perfect all the skills required to make Howard's deliciously spicy Empanadas. Howard will also be on hand to answer your questions, be those about baking or his experiences of being involved on such an iconic television show.
Tickets are priced at £35 for individuals and £50 for groups of two or more that will join from the same screen. Please note we can accept requests to move classes with two or more weeks notice prior to the class – any requests to do so, will incur a £5 administrative charge.
Once booked in, all guests will be emailed a full recipe and the zoom link required to join us for the class. Just in case you don’t spot it please check junk mail!
Large Flat Baking Sheets or Trays
2x Large Frying Pan or Skillets
2x Pastry Brush
Large Cookie Cutter (or use a bowl or saucer as template)
For the Spiced Beef (or Veggie) Filling:
1 Small Red Onion, finely chopped
1 or 2 cloves of Garlic, crushed
1 Red Pepper (Romano), finely chopped
1 Red Chilli, finely chopped
1tsp Ground Cumin
400g (1 lb) Minced / Ground Beef (or other meat)*
2tsp Tomato Puree
1 Stock Cube (beef or vegetable)
Salt and Pepper
75g (⅔ cups) Cheddar or Monterey Jack Cheese (grated)
For the Empanada Dough:
375g (3 cups) Plain Flour, plus extra for rolling**
Pinch of Salt
150g (11 tbsp) Cold Unsalted Butter, cubed
1 Large Egg, beaten***
100-150ml (½-⅓ cups) Cold Water
Beaten Egg for Glazing
For the Tomato Salsa:
1 Red Chilli
400g (2 cups) Fresh Tomatoes, finely chopped
1-2tbsp Olive Oil
Finely Chopped Red Onion or Spring Onion****
A Handful of Coriander (Cilantro), Parsley or Mint, chopped
Salt and Pepper
For the Sour Cream Dip:
250ml (1 cup) Sour Cream
1 Lime, juiced
1 Garlic Clove, Crushed
A Handful of Coriander, Parsley or Mint, chopped
1tsp Capers, chopped (optional)
Salt and Pepper
*For a Veggie Filling, replace the meat with about 400g of Quorn Mince (or other meat substitutes) or use canned black beans, drained and mashed slightly.
**Or you can use 00 pasta flour or a mix of the two
***Large Egg in UK = XL in US
****You can cook the onion a little before adding to the salsa if you prefer a milder onion taste
